How to choose pressure and tire width for the rim?

We provide DT Swiss guidelines for proper selection of tire width and applied pressure to ensure compatibility and safe use with the rim. These guidelines are designed with rims in mind DT Swiss, but can also be used as a general guideline for other manufacturers unless they have indicated otherwise.

To begin with, you need to determine the type of rim you have: hooked (with hook) or hookless (without hook). Then, knowing the inner width of the rim, you can adjust the appropriate tire width range and the maximum pressure recommended by DT Swiss for a given tire width mounted on a given rim.

Example of how to read the value from the table:
DT RR 521 rim (hooked - with hook)
The inner width of this rim is 20 mm

Acceptable tire widths: 23-56 mm
Recommended tire widths: 25-30 mm

Maximum pressure 28 mm tire with tube:
7.8 bar / 113 psi

Maximum pressure 28 mm tire with tubeless:
6.3 bar / 91 psi

Document by DT Swiss.
Note: the document contains 2 tables, note which one is for hooked rim and which one is for hookless.
