Season 2024
When choosing wheels for a gravel bike, it's important to think about how hard the roads are and what tire width you need. Gravel bikes have changed a lot over the years. They used to be for easy gravel paths and forest trails, but now they're also used on harder mountain trails.
For allroad/roadplus rides, where riding mainly takes place on gravel, forest roads, and asphalt, tires in the range of about 36 – 42 mm work very well, providing good grip and low rolling resistance. For such tires, a rim with an internal width of at least 21 mm or wider is recommended. For more difficult trails, it is advisable to use wider tires and a rim width of at least 24 mm. This will allow the wheel to perform more effectively in rough terrain.
Hubs are important for making your wheels durable and failure-free, especially in tough conditions. Good hubs have well-sealed bearings to keep out sand, water, and dirt. We recommend DT Swiss and Evanlite hubs because they are well-sealed and made from high quality materials.
For spokes, we usually use mainly Sapim D-Light because they are light and durable. For harder use, like ultra races, mountain trails, or heavier riders, stronger Sapim Race spokes with brass nipples are much better. These wheels will be a bit heavier but very strong for tough conditions.
The wheel models we offer are some of the best in their price range. Each model can be customized to individual preferences in the configurator – allowing for modifications of hubs or spokes, nipple colors and tires selection.

For gravel and allroad, the lightweight DT R500 rim is an excellent choice. It has a high weight limit of 130 kg and an internal width of 22 mm. We recommend using tires between 32 and 42 mm wide. This model is great for allroad (road and gravel). However, if you need wheels for tougher terrain and wider tires, we recommend the previously mentioned DT GR 531 model.

Wheels built with the DT G 540 rim are similar to the top GR 531 alloy model (24 mm internal width). The G 540 model is a bit heavier but more price-affordable. These wheels are designed for various gravel trails, offering versatility. For tougher trails (mountain paths, bikepacking), we suggest choosing stronger Sapim Race spokes with brass nipples in the configurator. This setup will improve both durability and performance on difficult terrain.
